The Haifa Economic Company in collaboration with Haifa Municipality, the Haifa Port, the Old Acre Development Company and the Israel Ministry of Tourism launches this international competition to search for the best team of light designers, multi-media artists, architects and engineers and all professionals of media and entertainment to create an inspirational light art project at the port of Haifa that will boost tourism to the city and region.
This two-stage Design Competition will award the commission to create a fulminant, powerful and inspirational light art installation that re-connects Haifa with its port, enhances cultural life between the Carmel mountain to the shore-line.
The Haifa Lights Project will be a new – and free - permanent attraction of world class that can be compared with Hong Kong’s or Singapore’s dazzling lightshows, combined with other attractions such as water shows and projections in the port.
"With the breaking of highs in incoming tourism to Israel, I consider the city of Haifa to be of paramount importance and the development of tourism there. The innovative and original venture "Port of Light" will be a major attraction and will promote Haifa as a leading tourist city in Israel. The Light Harbor will be an exceptional attraction, and I wish all the participants in the competition great success."
Yariv Levin, Israel Minister of Tourism
“The Port of Light project joins a series of projects that we are promoting together with the Ministry of Tourism, with the assistance of Minister Levin, in order to position Haifa as the tourism metropolis of the north of the country. Thanks to these efforts, Haifa has become a regional tourist center for tourists from all over the world; as reflected in the dozens of planned and smart hotels in the city and in an hotel occupancy that is one of the highest in Israel.”
